Original track :

K_CHICO - Burn ***STEMS***

People can send their remixes back to K_Chiko  via his soundcloud drop-box :

K_Chiko’s brand of bluesy electro is unique.  He namechecks blues legends like John Lee Hooker, but obviously draws just as much from electronica – with “Burn” also tipping its hat to Depeche Mode. He plays the slide guitar, sings and plays synth at his infamous live shows. He also directed and stars in his innovative video for his current single ‘Burn’.

The video is  disorientating and actually effects your balance! The production is based on the morphing effect and required hundreds of unique stills. The famous Champagne producers "Bollinger," who normally only sponsor James Bond movies, liked the test shots so much that they donated entire cases of their product to the crew.

K_Chico has had support from the likes of GusGus, Ellen Alien, Chloe, Wighnomy Brothers, Munk and releases on Teichmann- Brothers' "Festplatten"and Bar25.

1 - Can you tell us a Tell us little about your background? Where did you guys grow up, and where are you based now?

To begin with, contrary to a common misconception, there’s just one person behind the moniker “Cut & Slice”. I’ve been playing musical instruments, since I was 9 years old – guitar, piano, contrabass. Moved to making electronic music around 2 years ago. I’ve grown up in Helsinki, Finland and still living here.

2 - What originally enticed you to start making music?

I don’t remember exactly why I started in the first place but music has been part of my life a long time. Moving to electronic music was just progression from “traditional instruments”.

3 - What do you think stands out the most about your sound?

I like combining some Disco and French house elements to my Electro / Complextro sound and spend a quite a lot of time thinking about chord progressions and harmonic elements on my tracks, which is something that doesn’t happen so often in electronic music.

4 - When did you first feel that you had finally discovered your own signature sound as a group?

I think my latest 2 releases and the one that will be released in a few months capture the sound I want to do pretty well. Of course it’s evolving all the time.

5 - When you sit down to make a track, what’s the first thing you typically do? How long does a track typically take you to make?

The creative process seems to be different every time I start a new song, like learning the whole thing again from a scratch. The amount of time I spend on one track varies a lot as well – sometimes it’s a couple of weeks, sometimes months.

6 - What inspires you when you go into the studio?

Other artists and the music I hear. Life events, some deep emotions or stuff like that don’t really inspire me, it’s just the desire to get the sounds out of my head to a listenable form.

7 - When you do sample, how do you approach it? Where do you source your samples from?

My sample usage is quite minimal actually. It’s mostly limited to different drum sounds, like claps, kicks etc. I’ve gotten some good samples from fellow producers and sometimes I use stuff that I hear on songs or find in the Internet. Otherwise I like creating the sounds myself.

8 - Do you play any instruments?

Guitar and piano. I’d say I’m quite proficient with guitar – I have background of jazz music there. Piano is more like side instrument and tool for composing, I’m not a concert pianist.

9 - What does your current production setup consist of?

I like to keep it simple: all the hardware I have right now is a laptop, monitors and MIDI controller. All the synths I use are virtual.

10 - Could you name three tracks that you think were particularly influential for your own style?

This is a quite hard one… I’d probably have to go with something by Justin Faust, Mord Fustang and Lazy Rich. Can’t really name separate tracks, though.

11 - How and where do you record?

I’m not doing “live recording” at all these days, it’s all MIDI programming, which I do with MIDI controller that sits on a desk in my “studio” (= living room).

12 - What time of day do you work best?

A bit of a cliché answer but I prefer working in the nighttime when everybody else is asleep. Thank god for the headphones!

13 - Where’s your favorite place to DJ?

In Helsinki, it’s definitely Club Venue. They have pretty much the best sound system in Finland and the club is fantastic. The staff and the managers are also really nice and professional so it’s easy to work with them as well.

14 - When you perform live, what’s your preferred setup, and how do you work together? How would you describe your sets?

When I perform live I use Traktor with Kontrol S4. I mostly play Electro House and stuff that requires quick transitions and spicing with effects and Traktor can do that best. My sets are more like performances as an artist than just DJ sets. I like using a mic and making the crowd feel that they’re getting something special, not just another DJ playing somebody else’s music.

15 - What records are obliterating your dancefloors at the moment?

Right now I’ve been slowly getting more into that big room sound, still playing a lot of Complextro / Electro House. A couple of worth mentioning are “Molly” by Cedric Gervais, “Rage” by Ralvero, “Bi-Polar” by Minero and “Stania” by Trampboat. Of course, playing a lot of my own stuff as well!

16 - What are you doing when you’re not DJing?

Spending time with my girlfriend and friends. Desperately trying to progress with my economic studies in the university as well. Oh yeah, and sleeping as well (that happens too rarely, though!).

17 - If you weren’t musicians, what would you be doing with your life?

Probably nothing that interesting… Hahaha…

18 - Where do you think you will be musically in the next few years?

Hopefully still releasing music and playing gigs! Now music is just one part of my life but I hope it gets a bigger role in the future.

19 - A last word…

Drop panties not bass!

(Caballo Remix).

Gato Preto are combining traditional latin / african rythms, massive subs and nasty synth grooves. You might say "this aint to new to me"... Damn right but this song comes with a message too:

Gata grew up in Portugal where her youth and early days as a grown up were disillusioned by prejudices, racism and crime. Dinheiro Negro (Black Money) describes the corrupted situation in developing countries like Portugal, which still are full of politicians who only have one thing in mind: Dinheiro Negro (Black / corrupted money).

The EP comes in 2 parts , with a selection of bass heavy mumbathon, tropical, latin, electro, grimey, remixes and even a touch of Star Wars! (Caballo Remix).

1 - Can you tell us a Tell us little about your background? Where did you grow up, and where are you based now?

We both grew up in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and are still based there. Although for the next few months we won't be home much, as we are currently touring the US, then it is on to Australia and New Zealand and then after that we are touring Europe kicking of with a UK gig at Koko Club in London.

We both started Djing in 2005, then moved quickly on to producing music and hooked up and formed Dirtyloud in March 2009. It has been a great three years with our remixes and singles constantly hitting top 10 in the beatport charts and getting booked for awesome gigs around the world, last year one of our favourites was headlining the dance stage at Synergy festival, Capetown.

2 - How did you get into making music?

It was a natural progression from playing others music, as we understood what rocked dancefloors and we wanted to make tunes that did that too!

3 - How would you describe the sound you make?

Dirtyloud Rock Music

4 - When did you first feel that you had finally discovered your own specific sound?

It was a combination of doing our first track as Dirtyloud and the response we received for it, and then it was when we completed the Apes From Space remix we felt we had cemented the Dirtyloud sound.

5 - How long does a track typically take you to make?

Really depends on a day, it comes from inside, sometimes can be one afternoon, sometimes 2 months, sometimes it never comes.

6 - What other producers are you inspired by?

The electronic music scene is always changing, and we try to make our own style, like a signature. When we started Dirtyloud we were inspired by artists such as Vandalism, David Amo & Julio Navas, Jon Gurd, Dirty South, Spencer & Hill, Dabruck & Klein, Deadmau5 and fellow Brazilians, Felguk.

Nowadays we don't feel as influenced by other producers we just do our sound, but we really respect and admire Skrillex, Nero, Pendulum, Rusko, Dada Life and Tommy Trash.

7 - What time of day do you work best?

We are most creative in the afternoon so usually we hit the studio then and work into the night.

8 - What’s your studio like?

We have 2 studios, one  each.

Our studios in our houses and really simple , no reverb control treatment, just PCs,  a pair of HS80M for reference, Motu ultralite as a sound card, Virus TI2, Ax-Synth, Axiom 61, Motif XF6, to make our own sounds and VSTs.

9 - How and where do you record?

In our studios.

10 - How do you explain your music to your family members?

We don't:)

11 - If you only had time to save one of your own musical relics or pieces of vinyl from imminent danger, which would it be?

Our latest work to be released later this year, Slow Motion with Amba Shepherd.

12 - When you’re playing out, what DJ setup do you prefer? CDJs? Turntables? Ableton? …

We used to play on CDjs, but when we started with Dirtyloud we moved onto Ableton Live because of the infinite possibilities of what we can do with the software.

13 - How do you see the Dubstep scene at the moment?

Very big in some countries, like the US where we are currently on a 17 date tour.

The dubstep scene is currently very small in Brazil but we are booked regularly and rock dance floors with our sets that cross effortlessly from dubstep to electro and back again.

14 - When you’re not listening to electronic music, what do you listen to?

All genres, as long as it good.

15 - Do you play any instruments?

Yeah, I play the piano and Eduardo plays the Bass and Guitar.

16 - If you weren’t musician, what would you be doing with your life?

We really don't know, thank goodness, we are musicians.

17 - Where do you think you will be musically in the next few years?

Never know, music scene changes every day, but we want to stick to our music being Dirty and Loud.

18 - A last word…

Keep working hard, dedicate yourself, take care of your health and enjoy what you do.
